Martyrs of the Christian church, who lived in the 3rd century. Their memory is commemorated on October 2. This day is celebrated by those who bear the name Cyprian and Ioustina (Justine).
Cyprian came from a wealthy pagan family in Carthage (modern Carthage, Tunisia). At a young age he fell in love with a Christian virgin named Justa. The young lady did not respond to his love and this was one of the reasons why Thassios, as his pagan name was, became a Christian. After distributing all his wealth to the poor, he retired and studied the Holy Bible and the church fathers alone. His election as bishop of Carthage caused the reaction of some clergy, who argued that he was wrongly elected, because he was a newcomer to the Christian faith.
Kyprianos emerged as one ofthe greatest ecclesiastical writers of the ancient church and fought with his work and action the heresies of his time. During his pastoral activity, he ordained Justa as a deaconess, who had been renamed Justina.
The hieromartyr Cyprian and the parthenomartyr Justina were martyred by beheading during the persecutions of the Roman emperor Decius (249-251).
