Saint John the Baptist

This image is handmade hagiography (hand painted) with gold leaf on carved wood. It has the signature of the hagiographer and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Saint John the Baptist is called the Forerunner because it is believed that by his teaching he prepared the world to receive the Messiah Jesus (Luke 1:76) and he is also called the Baptist because he baptized Jesus Christ in the Jordan River. He is one of the most popular Saints in Greece. He is considered the protector and guardian of the piggy bank and malaria patients.
Our church honors the memory of St. John the Baptist six times a year: on January 7, on February 23 the A and B finding of His honorable head, on May 25 the C finding of His honorable head, on June 24 the Birthday of the Saint and on September 23 the arrest of the Saint.
