Saint Athanasios is one of the four Fathers of the Eastern Church who bear the title “Great” along with Basil, Photios and Antonios, and one of the 33 Fathers of the Roman Catholic Church. He was distinguished for his struggles for the right faith and against Arianism. His memory is celebrated on January 18 and on May 2 by the Catholic Church. On this day Orthodoxy honors the resurrection of the relics of the Saint.
