Cassia incense

Incense brass case nickel-plated with carved patterns around the perimeter and a handle with six bells which has a Byzantine cross with enamel colors. The cation is a kind of sitting censer, known since the early Christian times. In the post-Byzantine period its use was limited mainly to monasteries and funeral ceremonies. It is a hand censer used as a kind of cymbal that accompanies chanting. “Let my prayer be as incense before me.”
